Cosette originates in French language and its meaning is unclear. Very probably, this name was first used by Victor Hugo in his 1862 novel Les Miserables, considered one of the greatest novels of the 19th century. The novel focuses on the character of an ex-con Jean Valjean, his experience of redemption and interactions with other characters. Cosette is the daughter of Fantine, left by her mother and rescued by Jean Valjean. Throughout time, Les Miserables were popularized by numerous adaptations, mainly as a musical.
